At Silktide, your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, and manage data when you use the Silktide Accessibility Checker browser extension (“the Extension”). We are committed to handling your information with care and transparency.
What Data is Collected
When using the free version of the Extension, we collect the following:
- Webpage HTML: The Extension captures the HTML structure of the active webpage you are testing, including visible elements such as text, images, and CSS. This data is sent to our servers for processing but is not stored in any database once the accessibility report is generated.
- No Personal Data (PII): The Extension does not intentionally collect any personal identifiable information (PII), such as your name, email address, or browsing history. However, if any personal or sensitive data is present in the HTML, it may be transferred as part of the page content but will not be stored.
- Sensitive Data in HTML: If the webpage you are testing contains sensitive information (e.g., customer details or private data), this data may be included in the transferred HTML. However, we do not store or retain this information. We encourage users to avoid running the Extension on sensitive or private content unless necessary.
How the Data is Used
- Processing Only: The data captured is sent to Silktide’s servers to generate an accessibility report. The data is processed temporarily and is immediately discarded once the report is completed.
- No Data Retention: Silktide does not store or retain any of the data transferred by the Extension. The process is purely transient, and no data is saved after the report generation.
Paid Users of Silktide
For users of the paid version of Silktide who log in via the Extension, the handling of your data is governed by our full Silktide Privacy Policy. Paid users’ data is processed differently as part of your contract with Silktide, and this free Extension Privacy Policy does not apply to paid services.
What the Extension Does Not Do
- No Data Storage: We do not store any data locally or on our servers after processing. Once the report is generated, the data is discarded.
- No PII Collection: While we do not intentionally collect personal data, if sensitive information is embedded in the HTML content, it will be transferred during report creation but will not be stored or retained.
- No Use of Browser Features: The Extension has access to certain browser features, such as localStorage, IndexedDB, and Clipboard APIs, but does not interact with or collect data from these sources. Its sole function is to capture the HTML from the active tab for accessibility reports.
- No Tracking or Advertising: We do not track your browsing activity, access cookies, or use collected data for marketing, analytics, or advertising purposes.
Security
At Silktide, we take security seriously. The data transferred for report processing is securely encrypted in transit using SSL. Furthermore, Silktide is SOC2 compliant, meaning we adhere to strict industry standards for data security and privacy.
Data Sharing
Silktide does not sell, trade, or share the data collected by the Extension. Since no data is retained or stored, there is no data to share.
Your Rights
Since no personal data is collected or retained, there are no specific rights around data access, deletion, or portability of personal data. The data is used solely for generating reports and is discarded immediately after.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices or legal obligations. Any updates will be reflected on this page with a revised effective date.
