Officially known as Directive 2019/882, the EAA isn’t a law itself, but a directive. That means each EU Member State must write its own laws based on it. Countries had until June 28, 2022 to pass national legislation—and those laws will start applying from June 28, 2025.
The directive sets out accessibility requirements for a wide range of digital and physical products and services, including websites, mobile apps, e-commerce, banking services, and more.
In this guide, we’ll break down who’s affected, what needs to be accessible, when you need to comply, and what happens if you don’t.
